Cardiff Crash Victims Named by Police

Teenagers Died in Bike Accident

Two teenage boys killed in a bike crash in Cardiff have been named as Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15.

The pair died after their bike was followed by a police van on Snowden Road in Ely on Monday evening. A member of the public found them in Pontypridd shortly after 6 pm BST.

Hundreds of people gathered at the scene of the crash on Tuesday night to hold a vigil for the boys. Kyrees's aunt, Hayley Murphy, spoke to the BBC after the vigil and said: "They were two amazing boys, full of life and laughter. They will be so sadly missed."

Harvey's aunt, Sian Evans, also paid tribute to her nephew, saying: "He was a beautiful boy, inside and out. He was always smiling and had a heart of gold. He will be forever in our hearts."

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the circumstances of the crash. The IOPC said in a statement: "We have received a referral from South Wales Police in relation to a fatal road traffic collision in Ely, Cardiff, on Monday, 22 May 2023, in which two teenage boys tragically died."

The IOPC said it would be investigating "the circumstances of the collision and the actions of the police officers involved."

South Wales Police have said that the officers involved in the incident have been placed on restricted duties while the IOPC investigation is ongoing.
